Express transport

Understanding express transport

Express transport is designed for shipments where time is the main constraint. It is used when goods need to be collected quickly, delivered within a short time window or moved as a priority to avoid a stockout, production delay, site stoppage, customer penalty or disruption to an operational schedule.

Unlike a more conventional transport plan, express transport is built around responsiveness. The objective is to identify available capacity quickly, make sure it is suitable for the goods and confirm that the requested deadline is realistic. Depending on the situation, this may involve rapid collection, direct delivery, priority routing or a dedicated vehicle.

Express transport can cover a parcel, documents, a spare part, several pallets, goods urgently required on site or any shipment where the deadline is critical. Vehicle selection depends on volume, weight, packaging, distance, collection and delivery access, and the actual level of urgency.

To organise an express shipment efficiently, accurate information should be provided from the first contact: collection address, delivery address, goods-ready time, required deadline, dimensions, weight, nature of the goods, handling constraints, site access, on-site contacts and any required documents.

These details allow feasibility to be checked quickly, reduce the risk of delays at collection or delivery and support a realistic transport plan. Express transport is therefore particularly useful for companies facing an unexpected event, a firm customer deadline or a strong operational constraint.

France & Europe express freight

Drivet Transport International, express freight across France and Europe

Drivet Transport International arranges express freight collections and deliveries throughout France and across numerous European lanes. Express transport is reviewed when goods must be collected quickly, delivered within a short deadline or moved directly to reduce handling breaks and intermediate stages.

Across France

Urgent collections throughout France

A shipment can be a parcel, one pallet, several pallets or a larger load. Vehicle selection depends on weight, dimensions, site access and the actual deadline required.

Europe

France → Europe, Europe → France and intra-European flows

We can review express movements from France to European destinations, from Europe to France and selected flows between European countries, depending on distance, vehicle availability and whether the requested deadline is operationally realistic.

Suitable vehicle

From small vans to dedicated trucks

Light vans, box vans, curtainsiders or larger trucks can be dedicated according to the goods. The aim is to select a vehicle compatible with the volume, weight, access constraints and urgency of the shipment.

When an express service is not required, road transport, freight forwarding or groupage and distribution may be more suitable. Temperature-sensitive goods can also require refrigerated transport.

Drivet Transport International express vehicles

Vehicles frequently used for express freight transport

The vehicles that will be shown in this section belong to Drivet Transport International. They are mainly light commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes, frequently used for urgent freight transport. Their compact size, easier access to urban and industrial sites and fast loading and unloading make them particularly suitable for time-sensitive and direct-delivery assignments.

In France, these light vehicles are also subject to different speed limits from goods vehicles above 3.5 tonnes. Subject to road signs and driving conditions, light vehicles may follow the general limits of up to 130 km/h on motorways and 110 km/h on divided roads, while goods vehicles above 3.5 tonnes are notably limited to 90 km/h on motorways and generally 80 km/h on other roads. This can reduce journey times on certain express missions.

A broader driving-time window should not, however, be presented as a systematic advantage. Since 1 July 2026, vehicles above 2.5 tonnes used for international transport or cabotage are also subject to EU driving-time, break and rest rules and the relevant tachograph obligations. Each DTI express operation is therefore organised in accordance with the rules applicable to the vehicle and route concerned.

Other available configurations

Other vehicles that can be dedicated to express transport

Express transport is not limited to light commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes. When volume, weight, cargo type or loading constraints require it, Drivet Transport International can also mobilise a larger vehicle and reserve it for a priority shipment. The vehicle is selected according to the actual requirement, with a direct and dedicated organisation designed to minimise handling and meet the agreed delivery time.

Curtainsider, box truck, flatbed, tipper, tanker or refrigerated truck: these configurations can be considered for an express mission whenever they are compatible with the goods and the regulatory or operational requirements of the transport.

Frequently asked questions

What is express freight transport?+

Express freight transport is a priority transport solution for shipments where timing is critical. It can involve rapid collection, a dedicated vehicle and direct delivery in order to reduce handling breaks and unnecessary waiting time between collection and destination.

When should express transport be used?+

Express transport is especially useful for urgent spare parts, stock shortages, production requirements, immobilised worksites, customer-critical deliveries, fixed delivery appointments or any shipment that must meet a short and clearly defined deadline.

Which vehicles are used for express transport?+

Vehicles under 3.5 tonnes are frequently used for express freight because they are flexible and well suited to urgent deliveries. Depending on the volume, weight and nature of the goods, Drivet Transport International can also dedicate a box truck, curtainsider, flatbed, refrigerated vehicle or another suitable configuration.

Can express transport be used for several pallets or bulky freight?+

Yes. Express transport is not limited to small parcels. Several pallets, bulky loads or goods requiring a specific vehicle can be moved on an express basis when suitable capacity is available and the requested deadline is operationally realistic.

What is the difference between express transport, groupage and freight forwarding?+

Groupage generally combines several consignments within shared transport and distribution flows. Express transport prioritises speed and can use a dedicated vehicle and direct routing. Freight forwarding is used to source suitable capacity for a part load, full truckload or specific requirement when urgency is not necessarily the main criterion.

Does Drivet Transport International arrange express freight throughout France and Europe?+

Yes. Drivet Transport International can assess express shipments throughout France, from France to European destinations, from Europe to France and selected intra-European flows. Feasibility depends on distance, vehicle availability, the goods, operating hours and any regulatory constraints applying to the route.

What information is needed for a fast express-transport quote?+

Useful information includes collection and delivery addresses, goods-ready date and time, required deadline, nature of the goods, number of parcels or pallets, weight, dimensions, handling requirements, site-access constraints and on-site contacts.
